Changes to Illinois Compliance Rules

The Illinois Senate recently voted in favor of SB 2989, a bill that affects how reporting is done for third-party shippers. If passed, this bill will require wineries to register all addresses from which wine is shipped, including any fulfillment centers, as part of the application and renewal process for direct-to-consumer permits. Fees for the permits will increase as well, so be prepared to pay for both the initial application and renewal.

The bill is now before the governor to sign – if it is ratified, the bill will go into effect as of January 7, 2017, so you will have time to plan for any changes to your direct-to-consumer shipping programs.
