Data In, Data Out

I have recently been reminded about how important clean data entry is to accurate compliance. The systems we all use for every aspect of our business are only as good as the operators and this especially applies to data entry for direct-to-consumer shipments. I recently spoke with a prospective client about their compliance needs and there was an issue where the orders that were processed in their CRM system were input incorrectly by the staff and they all needed to be corrected manually for reporting purposes, defeating the purpose of their integrated compliance software and adding additional costs to preparing the reports.

It is important that ALL staff at the winery be educated in compliance issues and regulations so they can better understand how their actions impact compliance on a daily basis. This education also helps them deal with the public who are demanding shipments to states that may not be fully compliant for the winery – they can give complete explanations of the restrictions that are in place to the customer.

Remember: What you put in is what you get out of any system or program.
